This Saturday, Dec. 7, WJJW will return with another installment of The Sound, with performances this year from LuxDeluxe, Melanie Glenn, and Zac Rea.

This exciting night of music will take place in The Church Street Center Social Hall, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and music beginning at 7:30 p.m., the show is free for all with an MCLA ID and carries a suggested donation of $5 for the general public. However, nobody will be turned away due to inability to pay.

LuxDeluxe hails from the nearby town of Northampton, Mass. and is well known for their high-octane performances, especially from the intense, confident, frontman Ned King.

According to the group LuxDeluxe “steeps their music in classic rock waters and then adds a modern touch to create a near-perfect sound for just about anyone with ears.” They cite Wilco, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and cult-favorite NRBQ.

For the last six years Melanie Glenn has been touring as a member of the seven-piece band Upstate. However, her solo career is equally impressive.

Beginning her music career in Hudson Valley, Melanie has since ventured to western Mass. She says her music “widens eyes with raw, soulful moments through a combination of wholesome originals and the occasional covers.”

In 2018, Melanie released “Bathroom Tracks” which was recorded in the bathroom of a North Adams home using two microphones. The project was recorded for fans at live performances who wanted to keep listening. She plans on releasing a full-length album in 2020.

Zac Rea is just a freshman at MCLA but don’t let his youth fool you. Rea is a performer beyond his years performing original music with an acoustic, indie-sound, and chill vocals.

Growing up in the country side of Mass. Rea began playing guitar and writing original songs at the beginning of high school. Since then, he has grown his love to create. He likes to preform solo with an acoustic guitar to capture the music the way he wrote it.

The Sound was started in 2016 to highlight local, independent, and new artists. The series also hopes to bridge the gap between the MCLA and Greater-North Adams community through music.

This year’s installment of The Sound is made possible in part due to the 20 donors to WJJW’s crowdfunding efforts this fall.
